Smartnotebook is a program that teachers can use on interactive whiteboards. Interactive whiteboards look just like whiteboards but are connected to a computer. It projects what is on the computer screen on the board and allows teachers to use it for interactive activities because it is a touch screen. Teachers can use Smartnotebook to create interactive and engaging activities for students. It is different from power point presentations in that it has interactive activities and lesson pieces found within the toolkit and galleries. This program makes learning come alive and truly helps to get students moving and active while learning the concept the teacher is trying to teach. My Smartnotebook presentation is designed for a ninth grade History class. It meets PA standard 8.4.9.A: Compare the role groups and individuals played in the social, political, cultural, and economic development throughout world history. The activity I created teaches students about the different gods and goddesses the Ancient Greek and Romans worshiped and how those gods influenced their cultures. This included interactive matching and categorizing activities on the different gods, as well as videos that further explained the notes. This activity also fits into the SAMR model under modification. Overall, this project went really well for me. It took some adjusting to get used to the formatting, but once I got the hang of it, it became an easy tool to use. If I could do anything differently, I would try to make the lesson include more interactive tools to teach the material aside from videos and notes. It was difficult to balance material with fun activities. This activity relates to what I am learning in Educational Psychology because we are learning about the Constructivist view of learning. In this view, it is believed that students should be actively involved in their learning. Smartnotebook allows students to engage with the material they are learning, which would allow teachers to incorporate this view of learning into their classroom.
