Animoto is an online program that allows teachers to create videos using text, pictures, and short video clips. With this tool teachers can easily add music and a theme to their pictures and/or video clips and Animoto creates seamless transitions from picture to picture with a click of a button. To create this Animoto video, I created an education account (which is free for teachers) and then clicked create a video. From there I picked out a theme and added text and pictures from my computer into my video. Animoto allows teachers to rearrange text and pictures in whatever order they would like. Then I selected a song that I wanted to play in the background. Before I published my video, I previewed it using the preview tool and then I published it. My video explained my teaching metaphor I created for my Educational Psychology class. My metaphor stated that the teacher is a tour guide and the students are the tourists. Throughout my video, it explains why I believe this through text and pictures. This fits into component 4A of the Danielson Framework of Teaching because this project made me reflect on what I have learned in Educational Psychology all semester and made me reevaluate my metaphor to encompass the knowledge I gained.
Overall, this project went really well. Animoto is a pretty simple tool to use and it was fun designing a visually appealing video. If I could do anything differently, I would make my video pertain to an anticipatory set for an elementary aged lesson. That way I could use the video in my future classroom. The learning from this project ties into what I am learning in Educational Psychology. We discussed the importance of reflecting on our teaching as we create and teach lessons. This video taught me to reflect on the knowledge I have gained in this class throughout the semester by applying it to a metaphor. In my future classroom, I could use Animoto to create an anticipatory set for math lesson or for any subject I will be teaching.
