This component of Domain 3 is about different questioning and discussion techniques for the classroom. This gives teachers information about how to ask a variety of questions and to encourage student participation. This component is all about using questioning and discussion techniques properly in the classroom. It also discusses the importance of using high quality and different types of questioning techniques like in Bloom's taxonomy. This is important because it allows teachers to be aware of different types of high quality questioning prompts that are available in their teacher tool bags, as well as allows them to move up and down Bloom's taxonomy and provoke critical thinking among their students. Teachers must be able to give their students adequate time for their students to answer questions and students must understand how to respond, initiate, and maintain class-wide discussion. Teachers need to expect that everyone gets a voice in discussion and must be able to encourage students to be respectful of others when they participate in discussions.
