This component of Domain 1 of the Danielson Framework is about how teachers need to have mastery of the curriculum they are teaching, as well as understand the complex relationships between each content area. Also they must be up to date with their methods and knowledge of those methods to effectively teach their students. This component is important because if teachers do not understand what they are teaching, how can the students? Teachers need to understand what they teach so that they can explain it to their students and prevent them from making common mistakes. They also need to stay up to date with how they teach so that they are teaching content area the most effective way and handle discipline correctly.
