Kahoot is an online program that allows teachers to create fun quizzes for students to compete against one another while playing. It also allows teachers to track student progress and results as a form of formative assessment. Kahoot allows teachers to create multiple choice quizzes that can include images and videos. To create a Kahoot game, all teachers have to do is create an account. From there they click create a new Kahoot. Then they just type in their questions and answers, as well as add any pictures or videos they wish to include. Then they can save and name their Kahoot game and use it in class as a review game. I will instruct students to use this tool by having them go to Kahoot's website and plug in the game code into their phones. Then I will have students type in their names. From there students just have to plug in their answers for each question as fast as they can to compete against their peers and earn points. I will receive results from these quizzes after students finish playing the game. Kahoot tells teachers which questions students got right or wrong in a chart, as well as tells them which place each student got in the game. With these results, I can gauge whether or not my students have been studying and if they are comprehending what is being taught in class or not. This tool fits into Danielson Framework of Teaching in that it is a tool teachers can use to prep for future lessons. Based on how well students do on the Kahoot quiz, a teacher can adjust their lesson plan for the next day or week to either review past material or reteach difficult sections. More specifically, this tool fits into component 1F, which is all about designing assessments for students. Kahoot is a great, fun example of formative assessment, which meets the element designing formative assessment.
Overall, this project went really well. Kahoot is a simple and easy tool to use. If I had to do anything differently, I would make my Kahoot quiz fit for elementary aged students. The learning in this project applies to what I am learning in Educational Psychology because we are discussing lesson plans. Formative assessment is a very important aspect of lesson planning and Kahoot provides teachers with another way to incorporate it into their classroom. In my future classroom I will use Kahoot as a review game for my students to play before taking a test.
