I am a Pre-K-4 Elementary and Special Education graduate from Grove City College. On campus, I was involved in Grove City's Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, where I served as an executive member. We planned events such as Awesome Authors, to promote literacy in local schools, and participated in a variety of professional development opportunities, such as EdCamp GCC. I was also involved in an after school tutoring program called The Pittsburgh Project. Once a week, we drove down to Pittsburgh to help run enrichment activities for students from low income areas within the city. Finally, I received the opportunity to participate in two Inter-City Outreach (ICO) trips. One to San Andres, Guatemala and the other to Shell Mera, Ecuador. On both trips I planned and ran learning centers for children in the local villages.
I am currently working as a 1st grade teacher and am also working towards my graduate degree to become a K-12 Reading Specialist at Saint Joseph's University. I continue to reflect upon the practices in my classroom and strive to provide differentiated instruction that is engaging to all students in my room.
I wanted to be an educator because the teachers I had in school were always so passionate about both the curriculum they taught and supporting their students. They went out of their way to make sure that every child got as much as they could out of what was taught. I plan to implement these same ideals in my classroom.
