This component of Domain 1 is about designing assessment for students. It explores the different types of assessment (summative and formative) and the importance of rubrics. Teachers need to use assessment to gauge student learning. In order to do this, teachers need to make sure that the assessments meet all the needs of their students through adaptation. This component is all about designing assessments that work for all students. This is important because teachers need to understand the difference and importance of assessments for and of learning. Assessments also ensure that students have understood the learning outcomes, which also shows the teacher was able to incorporate assessment during the lesson, and thus is able to adapt the lesson when needed. These assessment techniques must be used by the teacher and student for self-evaluation.
