This component of Domain 4 is about how teacher communication with families is important. In order for there to be clear and open dialogue with students' parents and families, teachers must be able to have discussions and inform families about their child's progress and classroom activities/assignments. This is important because teachers must provide opportunities for families to understand the instructional program and how their child is progressing. This can be hard to do with parents being busy with family and job obligations. A teacher's effort to communicate with families shows how much they care and value families of their students.
