This component of Domain 4 is about showing professionalism for the field of teaching. Teachers need to be maintaining ethical conduct, advocating for students, and following the rules of the school district they are working in. This component tells teachers how to conduct themselves as a professional and focuses on being ethical, advocating for students, high standards of decision making, and obeying school district rules. This is important because professionalism is all about trust, honesty, confidentiality, integrity, and advocacy. This component tells teachers how to conduct themselves in the school, among colleagues, students and the community, which is important because teachers need to understand how their interactions with others has a direct impact on student learning.
