In class for a whole week, I tracked fellow students' class participation using the program ClassDojo. I set up my own account and created a classroom with the students I would be tracking in it. It is really easy to connect to parents and students through this program. All a teacher has to do is use the messaging component of this program to send any reminders or updates to parents and students. Teachers can even specify who specifically they want to message. Teachers can track student progress through the reports they can access in the program. ClassDojo keeps track of any points a teacher gives their students both positive and negative. Through this teachers can see how well their students are doing or where they need to improve. Some examples of custom positive behaviors teachers can track are working well with others and helping other students. Some examples of custom negative behaviors teachers can track are interrupting in class and incomplete homework. I can use this tool in my future classroom as a reward system for students. If they earn a certain number of points they can earn a prize and through this positive behaviors/interactions will be encouraged. This fits into component 2A because teaching is all about building relationships. Teachers need to encourage positive relations between students and through this tool teachers are able to achieve this. By earning points for being kind to one another, this artifact encourages students to be kind to their classmates, thus teachers are able to meet the component 2A element: student interaction with other students. If I could do anything differently, I would have tried to give points more frequently when a student did something positive. Often times during an activity I would forget to give a student points and then later would have to try and remember what they said/did. Overall, this tool taught me a lot about tracking student behavior and was easy to monitor their progress. I loved how organized and easy to use it was as well. This tool ties into what I am learning in Foundations of Teaching because we are learning about monitoring student progress through assessment. ClassDojo allows teachers to monitor student progress through formative assessment of student behavior.
